HOWTO Localize Localization is in process and we made a lot of progress specifically with German and Polish. Help would be welcome! We have created a plugin system for localization packages that includes both Web UI translation as well as localization of voice prompts. The HowTo below describes how to accomplish this.

Starting with sipXecs version 3.10, it is possible to use installable localization packages for the localization of the sipXecs system. The following links provide information about how to create localization packages as well as steps required to properly install and activate a localization package.

HOWTO Route Around the PSTN Routing calls around the PSTN seamlessly and transparent to the user is not only cheap but quite interesting. sipX supports the two most interesting ways of doing this: ENUM and ISN dialing. Learn more about it here:

HOWTO Optimize & Troubleshoot The first step to performance optimization is to install a minimal system without a graphical desktop. The second step is about sufficient physical memory. We recommend a minimum of 512MB, but that highly depends on the number of simultaneous media server sessions (voicemail & auto-attendant).
HOWTO Configure A Redundant System In SIP redundancy, fail-over and load-balancing is accomplished using DNS SRV recors, very similar to how this is done with Web services. sipX fully supports this. Release 3.2 will introduce the first phase of a high-availability configuration with a fully redundant call control architecture (proxy server and registrar).
HOWTO Configure Additional Services on the sipX Server Additional services, such as DHCP & DNS servers, an NTP time server, sendmail email servers can be configured to run on the sipX host. While this affects overall performance, such services are sometimes necessary in order to end-up with a complete system. DHCP & DNS servers have to be on the local LAN for sipX to work. sendmail can be used for voicemail forwarding by email if no other email server is already available. An NTP time server is useful if you don't want many phones that require time and date settings to go out to the Internet.
HOWTO Traverse Firewalls & NATs It could very well be that 2006 is the year when SIP finally gets through mainstream firewalls in a secure way. Cisco's PIX has gotten quite good and Checkpoint, Juniper (Netscreen), Sonicwall and other are working on it heavily. Until such time ... (see below):
